loooooong boot time

I have a Toshiba Satellite that I bought a little less than a year ago, and have never had a single issue with it until today.
I turned it on and it took almost an hour to boot up windows.
Everything loaded up like it should, it just took forever and is still running very slow now that it is up and going.
I checked task manager, and I'm using very little of my available resources.
I was going to try a system restore to a previous date, but when I try that, I get an error message saying "system restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system.
The volume shadow copy service used by system restore is not working." I shut it down, unplugged it, removed the battery, and held down the power button for about 30 seconds in case it was a static issue.
I have restarted it a couple times, and no improvement.

Any ideas???
